Marcus & DIAL · DIAL’s Tip

How much to charge for detailing as a beginner

$90 for a full detail is not a low price, it is a wage. Take off about $40 of product, water and gas and you keep $50 for four hours of work — $12.50 an hour. Price it backwards instead: costs plus the hourly rate you will actually work for, which puts a full detail at $180 and the same four hours at $35 an hour.

DIAL’s fix

  1. Add up what one full detail costs you in product, water and gas. In the video that is $40.
  2. Time yourself on a real full detail, start to finish. Marcus is four hours.
  3. Pick the hourly rate you will actually work for, then price backwards: costs + (hours × rate). At $35 an hour that is $40 + $140 = $180.
  4. Put $180 on the page as the starting price and let people pick their own time, so nobody has to text you for a quote.

Copy and paste this:

Full detail starts at $180 — that is about four hours of work and $40 of product. Pick a time here and it takes about forty seconds: [your booking link]
